About Crossword Mini
Five across, five down, one tiny grid. The Mini Crossword is built to be finished before your coffee gets cold -- ten clues, no filler, and the clock is ticking.
A 5x5 grid with ten interlocking words. One wrong letter jams up both directions, so every clue counts. The timer starts when you do, and regulars end up racing their own best times. New puzzle every day on DailyPlay, same grid for everyone.
Crossword Mini on DailyPlay is completely free to play with no ads, no pop-ups, and no interruptions.
How to Play
Goal
Fill every white cell in the 5x5 grid so that each across and down answer matches its clue. The puzzle is solved when all ten words are correct.
Rules
- Tap or click a cell to select it, then type your letter. The cursor advances automatically.
- Tap a selected cell again (or press the arrow keys) to toggle between across and down.
- Black cells are blocked -- they separate the words and can't be filled.
- Every letter belongs to both an across word and a down word.
Strategy
- Start with what you know. Scan all ten clues and fill in any gimmes. Those letters give you a head start on the crossings.
- Work the crossings. On a 5x5 grid almost every letter is shared. One good answer can crack open two or three others.
- Read both clues for a tough cell. Stuck on 3-Down? Check the across clue that runs through the same cell. Between the two clues you often have enough to guess the letter.
Tips
- Speed comes from clue reading, not typing. Scan all the clues first so you know where the easy ones are.
- Don't overthink it. Mini clues tend to be straightforward. If an answer feels right, type it and move on -- you can always undo.
- Use hints to break a jam. You get three per puzzle. One revealed letter in the right spot can unstick the whole grid.
